On the southern end of the Atlantic Coast of Florida lies the tropical paradise of Port Saint Lucie, a city of pristine beaches, beautiful sunsets, and year-round sunshine. Homes in Port Saint Lucie, whether they enjoy an ocean view or the scenery of the cityscape, are decked out with elegant palm fronds and a classically Spanish architectural influence. Adobe colored exteriors, flat or gently sloping rooftops, luxurious indoor or outdoor archways, and bright white detailing are all details that stand out.
The Saint Lucie West area experienced booming economic and residential growth over recent years, and holds over 7,000 jobs and 14,000 homes across 7 square miles. The largest fully featured residential development within Port Saint Lucie is a relatively new community called Tradition, a result of the careful planning and engineering of the Core Communities association. Tradition, which was built on the site of a former cattle ranch, contains over 18,000 residences, in addition to numerous retail and commercial sites, community centers, and more. It is based on the model of a town from the 1950s historical period, and was rated one of the top 100 communities in America. Other developments and neighborhoods in Port Saint Lucie are also focused on the strategic placing of job opportunities near residential areas.
With plenty of new or growing research parks, government offices, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions, Port Saint Lucie’s economy has been strengthened and revitalized after the recent recession. The Florida Center of Innovation is located within the city, and contains a research laboratory and campus for biotechnology and life sciences. Between the recent establishment of the Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies and the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute, approximately 30,000 jobs were created in Port Saint Lucie. Other sources of employment include the Saint Lucie Transportation Planning Organization, the Saint Lucie County Public Schools, and three different colleges and universities.
